Seekers of Christ

Jesus Christ made some incredible claims while He walked on this earth. Jesus claimed to be God, God’s Son, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the only way of salvation. He claimed to be eternal, that He would be killed, yet lives forever, and He received worship from others. If someone today claimed these things, they would be committed to an asylum and medicated.

Some say that Jesus was a good teacher and presented a lifestyle of high ideals. Jesus claimed to be God. While Jesus was the best teacher who ever lived, and His lifestyle is one to be imitated, simply reducing Him to a teacher and role model will not suffice. He claimed to be God. Either Jesus was who He said He was or He was insane. We believe He was who He said He was!

Since you are here on this page, you must have an interest in seeing if Jesus was God as well. Some of Jesus’ life is recorded for us in the Gospel record made up of four main books – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the Bible. The Bible is the most documented, researched, tested and proven historical book ever written. There are more ancient copies of the Book than any other. While there are those that scoff at its contents, there are none who doubt its reality and validity. The Bible, written over thousands of years by multiple authors that lived centuries apart, has one central message. That message is that God loves His creation, including humans, and that He has provided everything necessary for us to know Him.

The Bible clearly teaches that man has a serious problem from birth. All men are born in sin and because God is a holy God, sin must be judged. You may think, “I’m a good person, I don’t have any sin.” God has established a plumb line to test us in this thinking called the Ten Commandments. Have you ever told a lie, even a very small one? You are a liar. Have you ever taken anything that was not yours, even a paperclip? You are a thief. Have you ever cussed or said a swear word? You are a blasphemer. Have you ever spoken against your parents in some fashion? You failed to honor them according to God’s Law. Ever had a lustful thought? Ever wish you had something that someone else had? All of us have sinned and broken the Ten Commandments, and therefore are condemned to hell.

That is why Jesus came to earth, became a man and died on the cross – to provide for us the cure to what our sin had caused. The Bible states that all have sinned, all are under the curse of sin, and all are destined to be separated from God for all of eternity. A just, holy God could have it no other way. Jesus said He was the way to the Father. Jesus said you must be born again. Jesus said that He would give His life as a ransom for us so that we could be restored to God in a perfect relationship. That is why Jesus came, lived a perfect life, and willingly died upon the cross for us. Jesus paid the price of our sin and when we accept this truth, we receive forgiveness for our sins and are restored to a perfect relationship with God.

All of this is recorded in the Bible for us to read and know. If you are seeking Jesus and the Truth, begin your journey by reading the Bible. Start in the Gospels, perhaps with the book of Mark or John, and examine what Jesus said. See if what was written here agrees with what Jesus said there. Seek and you will find – when you seek with all your heart.

If you come to the conclusion that you are lost, a sinner in need of salvation, Jesus is the Answer and the Way! If you cry out to Him asking for forgiveness, He will hear you and grant it, for that is why Jesus died on the cross – to take our place. This wonderful promise of God was stated like this:

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:21) (NLT).

The Bible tells us that the punishment for sin is death. Jesus took upon Himself our sin when He died on the cross over 2,000 years ago. so we didn’t have to. When we place our faith in Jesus and ask Him to become the Lord of our life and to forgive our sins, He does so immediately. Then we can begin the exciting journey of being a disciple!
