Discipleship Enrichment

God has sent you on a journey. Not a journey to foreign lands or a sojourn to far away places, but a pilgrimage to a life that is filled with Christ.

Psalm 84:3-6 clearly says this:

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.”

Have you set your heart on this pilgrimage? Are you stepping out onto the road of faithfulness to Christ Jesus and finding your life enriched by Him? This is the call and the promise for every disciple of the Lord (1 Corinthians 1:5). Like the men on the road to Emmaus, you will find your heart burning with the truth of God’s word and your life transformed by the ever-abiding presence of Christ.

What does it mean to be enriched?

Ephesians 3:14-19 says, “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”

You are meant to be filled to all the fullness of God! There are three areas of your spiritual journey that must fill your life and these come when you determine to be His disciple, joining with others who are on the journey as well.

  1. You will be empowered by His Spirit

Too many Christians try to live in this world without the power of God’s Spirit.  Remember the promise of our Lord Jesus, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8).  God does not empower you to accomplish your will but His. When you step out by faith and live for Christ Jesus as His disciple, you will find that His power is working in you.

  1. You will be encouraged in your faith.

Fellowship with Jesus is the reality of your journey of faith. As you walk in this world, living and acting for God’s glory, you will discover a richness of relationship with the Lord Jesus that you might never have known before. Jesus said this, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23).

  1. You will be enlightened by His word.

How do you know the love of Christ? “But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him” (1 John 1:5).  God wants you to be filled to all the fullness of Christ and that comes through a life that is enlightened by His word. There is no other source that will enrich your walk with Christ. You are meant to grasp how wide, deep, and high is the love of Christ – and that comes through knowledge and obedience to His word.

God has called you to go from “strength to strength,” to be “filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” As a disciple of Jesus Christ, God will enrich your life as you determine to walk with Him by faith.
